To be in Khanty-Mansiysk means to learn a lot of interesting things about the black gold of Ugra in the Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas. You will not find an open institution of this kind anywhere else in Russia. A unique collection of minerals, the history of the oil and gas industry, the history of geological exploration, an extensive raw material fund, paleontological finds on the territory of the district, the equipment used in their work by geologists and oil workers – this is only a small part of what you can learn and see in the museum. The museum's collection includes 36,000 exhibits. The museum is ideal for a family visit. It will be interesting for both adults and children, because the expositions use multimedia labels, electronic photo frames, a touch kiosk, and a unique multimedia book, the analogues of which are presented only in two other museums in Russia. And to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere, it will be useful for children to visit museum and pedagogical excursions, which tell about the chemistry of minerals and even space. All this proves once again that going to the museum is not boring.

You will find yourself in the center of a modern industrial giant: you will look into the heart of the plant — the central control center, walk along the technological route and learn how associated petroleum gas (APG) is used to create raw materials for things that surround us in everyday life: from automotive parts to medical products, from food films to plastic bottles (which by the way, it can be recycled – and this is an important part of our common concern for the planet).

The core storage facility is the "memory bank" of the Earth. Rock samples extracted from great depths are stored here, which scientists use to determine the presence of oil.

Easy to Get There

Yugra is Western Siberia — a land of taiga rivers and lakes, world-class sports and business forums. You can fly direct from Moscow in three hours for 10,000 rubles, or from Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Perm, Ufa and Tyumen — that takes about an hour and a half, starting from 7,000 ₽ one way.
